What is cement additives and what is the application?

Cement supports and protects well casings and helps achieve zonal isolation. Critical to safer, environmentally sound, and profitable wells, zonal isolation is created and maintained in the wellbore by the cementing process. Zonal isolation prevents the fluids such as water or gas in one zone from mixing with oil in another zone. This is achieved through the creation of a hydraulic barrier between the casing, cement and formation. Cement additives are materials added to cement for the optimization of the cement properties and the cement grinding process. Cement additives are classified into different product groups such as grinding aids, strength enhancers and performance enhancers. There are two basic kinds of activities in cementing, namely, primary and secondary cementing. Primary cementing fixes the steel casing to the surrounding formation. Secondary cementing is used for filling formations, sealing, or water shutoff. The performance can be varied by the addition of additives with regard to various aspects. Depending on the application of the cement, a wide variety of additives can be incorporated. These include accelerators, retarders, dispersants, extenders, weighting agents, gels, foamers, and fluid loss additives. Foring Chemcials offers a wide range of high quality specialty chemical additives for oilfield applications and also provide tailor-made design to support and enhance the cementing process. Cement dispersants improve the slurry rheology such that long range pumping is greatly improved and at the same time water-reduced cement slurries are possible. Fluid loss additives, which are stable against high temperatures and concentrated salt solutions, ensure a reliable cementing job under difficult conditions. Retarders can be synergistically combined with our highly efficient dispersants allowing for time critical cementing jobs under high temperature conditions. The anti-gas migration additives prevent gas from channelling through the hardening cement and ensure a reliable cementing job, whilst our defoamers have outstanding foam control properties.
